Climate resilience

Keeping schools open and learning going through floods and extreme heat.

Why it matters

Cyclical flooding, prolonged drought and extreme heat routinely disrupt schooling in South Sudan. EFASS takes a proportionate, education-led approach so schools and education authorities can anticipate, adapt to and recover from climate shocks without defaulting to prolonged closure.

What we do

Education continuity plans

Every school and ALP centre in EFASS counties develops measures to keep learning going during and after climate shocks.

Flexible timetables

Schedules adjusted in anticipation of predictable disruptions, such as seasonal flooding, rather than losing teaching time entirely.

Seasonal adaptation

Adapting school hours and arrangements during extreme heat.

Learning from data

Attendance data helps show where climate events are disrupting learning, so support can be targeted.
